US President Donald Trump said Iran had taken too long to negotiate the deal and would now “pay the price”, threatening to “hit them again”, while Tehran said it would re-evaluate diplomatic ties with Washington after the tit-for-tat attacks.
“Iran is all talk and no action,” Trump said in a social media post on Wednesday (US time). “They took too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they’re going to have to pay for it!!!”
Asked by a reporter in the Oval Office what he meant by his post, Trump said: “Well, we’re going to attack them, attack them very hard.” He blamed Iran for shooting down a US Apache attack helicopter, but noted that he still wanted Iran to sign an agreement to end the conflict.
“We hit them hard yesterday, and we’re going to hit them hard again today, if you miss it, if you don’t turn on your television set,” he said. “And we will determine what happens with the contract.”
