He may not have been the best qualifier, but Australia’s Jesse Moore stunned the field by winning gold in the men’s parallel bars.

Moore scored an impressive 14.000 to move to the top of the pack and win ahead of Marius Georgiou of Cyprus with a 13.800 and Canada’s Felix Dulci with a 13.300.

That’s two gold medals for Australia in one-hour gymnastics.

Moore knew he was capable of sleeping, even if his results the past two days didn’t show it.

“I knew it was a good opportunity for me to go to p-bars. I went yesterday and I tried a new skill that I haven’t competed in before, which obviously wasn’t great, but I tried to have fun yesterday and carry it into today,” Moore said.

A not-so-good performance from yesterday was in the pommel horse final, where Moore fell mid-apparatus routine for the second time for these Games.

But today was a very smooth day, and not only did Moore set his routine, but he was the clearest, beating field favorites Alexander Olsen-Cash of England, Canada’s Felix Dolsey and Scotland’s Reuben Ward.

“I knew there were a couple of mistakes. [from me] In the last two of the comps,” he said.

“I knew I was capable of being around 14.000, though that should be a good routine. There’s an element of luck, right? Those guys put it there, too, and I was just lucky enough to come out on top.”

Moore will now go home with three medals after winning bronze in the individual all-around and bronze with the team.
