Inspiring Roos captain Nick Larkey spoke after today’s win in Perth, and had special praise for opposition forward Jake Waterman, who missed a potential game-winning kick with just 40 seconds left.
Larkey took a moment to talk to Waterman even after the siren.
“I think we got away with it in the end. We were very accurate and tried to take some of the momentum away from them because it’s so hard to win here,” Larkey told Cayo Sports.
“Waterman is one of the best key forwards in the game, and it’s sad to see that happen to anyone when you have an opportunity. [to kick the winner].
“Bouncing back…was a terrible performance last week, so it was really nice to come back and win.
“As much as we love to win, you hate to see it. [Waterman missing his chance to kick the winner]but he’s a gun and I see a lot of his stuff and want to play like him a lot. It’s unfortunate, but luck went with us when he didn’t get some time.
